In charge of the protection of children of the Catholic Church was taken with 4,000 images of child pornography.
Father of four children, Christopher Jarvis was arrested after downloading child abuse images to a website.
Married Jarvis, 49, a former social worker, was hired by the church after the scandal of priests sexually perverse.
His job was to oversee the church representatives to ensure pedophiles do not allow children to church congregations.
But he was caught by police in March with more than 4,000 images of child pornography on his home computer and laptop work.
He admitted 12 counts of manufacturing, possessing and distributing indecent images when he appeared before magistrates in Plymouth, and is likely to encounter in prison when he returns to court for sentencing next month.
Jarvis, who was fired from his job as an agent for child protection, the Diocese of Plymouth has worked for nine years.
Church spokesman David Pond said: "Mr. Jarvis was suspended from his post as soon as the diocese was announced in March of the police investigation.
